I can't tell you guys how many times I have gone down deep into the valley in this business ... I still do at least once each month "why is it soooo hard"
then I reflect on my hardest days of work seeing patients as a PA- this doesn't even compare. I don't stay in that place long - but I do go there .... last night God gave me a little extra boost to just keep going. I had a CRAPPY dream, in it I was working for one of my old bosses again... I was running from room to room at the hospital doing pre and post op consults, I was in the OR for 12 hours reattaching someone's hand, I caught my boss rolling his eyes at me as I didn't suture fast enough,
I saw my schedule with 5 more patients to see (who were angry from their very long wait to be seen) and it was 6:30pm. THAT LIFE WAS HARD.
I busted my a$$ for 4 years at the University of Florida, was accepted to medical school,
freaked out last minute and chose to be a Physician Assistant because I didn't want to be in school for 6+ more years. I couldn't get in, I had the grades/scores but didn't have experience. I chose to go to a community college in Ocala for 6 months to become a CNA so I could get experience. After 2 years of working as a CNA, I was accepted to PA school in South Florida. I graduated at the top of my class, was offered a FANTASTIC job with Miami's top dermatologists and was trained on skin from
the best in the business. During that time we had two miscarriages and then made it past the first trimester with my sweet Matthew and moved to Gainesville so my mom could stay at home with my baby while I worked 16+ hour days with a plastic surgeon. After two years in Gville (not as fun there when you aren't a student and you are working all the time), we moved to Jacksonville where I was offered a job with the top dermatologist in PV. It wasn't as many hours as working with the surgeon in
Gainesville but I did need a full time nanny. After 3 years (and the birth of Camden) my boss closed his entire office and moved to Texas. It was the spring of 2009 and the entire staff was searching for jobs. I decided then and there, my future would never again be in the hands of a boss.
I dove into one of the three small businesses Javier and I had started in 2008, the skin care store, Skin Solutions MD, but it wasn't thriving, one of the other ones was.
When people ask me what I do, I say "my husband and I started 3 businesses in 2008 because I was tired of trading my hours for dollars, and one of them exploded."
It was the cheapest one to start, in fact we
ate our investment. It was so cheap that I didn't believe my CPA when he said I could write it off. It took 3 business tries for me to find something that worked and the one that did I stumbled into thinking I was doing my brother a favor.
Why doesn't everyone make money doing what I am doing? There are a number of reasons but the biggest one is - they don't do the hard things. Hard is relative. Is it really that hard to invite someone to take a look? What's the worst thing that can happen? They say no. I can guarantee you - they aren't sitting around at night talking about you and your new business with their spouse. They don't care if your mortgage gets paid, if you can afford to pay for your kid to go to
their Dream School, the out of state college they got into, if you have to pay for your parents' care the last ten years of their life. THEY DON'T CARE- don't let what they may or may not do stop you from changing your life today.
